About LockChange.net

An independent emergency lock change guide. No paid listings. No locksmith affiliates. Just research-backed guidance for urgent security decisions.

What This Site Is

LockChange.net exists because most lock change advice online is written by locksmith companies trying to sell you a service call. That is not inherently wrong — but it means the urgency framing, the cost estimates, and the service recommendations are shaped by the writer's commercial interest.

This site is different. We do not operate a locksmith business, refer you to specific locksmiths, accept affiliate commissions, or receive payment for any listing or recommendation. The content is editorially independent and funded by none of the above.

Our only goal is to help homeowners and renters make a clear, fast decision in an urgent moment: do I need to act today, how fast, and what should I pay? The guides on this site answer those three questions — and nothing else.

How We Research

Pricing data on this site comes from direct quote comparisons conducted by our research team. We contacted 50+ licensed locksmiths across 12 US cities — including Boston, Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, Seattle, Denver, Philadelphia, and Chicago — and requested itemized quotes for specific lock types and service scenarios.

We also consulted publicly available rate disclosures from locksmith associations (ALOA) and cross-referenced with consumer review platforms to identify common bait-and-switch patterns.

All pricing is reviewed quarterly and adjusted for regional variation. The current data was verified in June 2026.

What We Cover and What We Do Not

We cover five urgent situations: lost keys, stolen keys or wallet, break-in aftermath, divorce and breakup, and moving into a new home. For each, we provide a decision framework, a cost range, and a recommended action sequence.

We do not: recommend specific locksmith companies, rank service providers, explain how to pick locks, provide step-by-step DIY rekeying tutorials, or cover commercial, institutional, or high-security locksmithing. Those topics are outside our scope and well-covered elsewhere.
